The Goodpasture Christian School community is grieving the tragic loss of Janie Grace Moss, a senior student and talented cross-country runner, who passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, following complications from a medical emergency.
Medical Emergency During Routine Run Leads to Tragic Outcome
Moss collapsed unexpectedly on Sunday while running at Wright Park. Emergency responders arrived quickly, and she was airlifted to Centennial Hospital, where she was placed on life support. However, despite life-saving efforts, Moss succumbed to cerebral edema, a severe brain swelling condition.
The heartbreaking news of her passing was confirmed by Jim Carter, Goodpasture’s athletic director, who emphasized the profound loss felt by the entire school.
A Multi-Sport Athlete and Beloved Student
Janie Grace Moss was not only a gifted cross-country runner but also an active member of Goodpasture’s cheer and swim teams. Her dedication to athletics reflected her passion, strong work ethic, and commitment to her school community. Coaches, peers, and teammates admired her leadership and spirit of teamwork, which made her an essential part of every team she joined.

Following her collapse, the Goodpasture community rallied to support Janie and her family. A prayer vigil was held on Monday evening at the W.F. Ruhl Arts Center, where friends, classmates, and community members gathered to pray for her recovery.
After her passing, Goodpasture’s athletic department shared their sorrow in a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter):
